Our vibrant primary school in Hackney is looking for a dedicated Deputy SENCO to join our team and help manage and develop our SEN provision. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed.
About the Role
As Deputy SENCO, you will collaborate closely with the SENCO, teachers, and support staff to ensure the effective delivery of tailored support for students with SEN. You will assist in the development and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), track student progress, and ensure inclusive practices are at the heart of the school’s approach. This role offers opportunities for professional development in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the SENCO in managing the school’s SEND provision to ensure that all students with additional needs receive appropriate support.
- Support the creation, implementation, and review of IEPs for students with SEN.
- Monitor the progress of students with SEN and ensure timely interventions and tailored support.
- Work closely with class teachers to ensure inclusive teaching practices are consistently applied.
- Provide advice, guidance, and training for staff on best practices in supporting students with SEN.
- Foster strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies to support a holistic approach to SEN provision.
- Oversee and support the work of teaching assistants and other support staff.
What We’re Looking For
We would love to hear from you if you:
- Are a qualified teacher with experience in Special Educational Needs, and ideally hold or are working towards the National Award for SEN Coordination.
- Are passionate about inclusive education and dedicated to supporting students with a variety of learning needs.
- Possess excellent communication skills and can work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with staff, parents, and external professionals.
- Are well-organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a busy school environment.
- Have experience working with primary-aged children and are familiar with the challenges they face.
