The Opportunity:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Sociology Teacher to join our prestigious school starting in February 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) to make a significant impact by teaching Sociology at Key Stages 3 and 4, with the potential to teach A-Level depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate engaging Sociology lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, ensuring each lesson is differentiated to meet the needs of all students.
- Develop a deep understanding of sociological concepts, from family structures to global social issues, helping students make connections between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications.
- Regularly assess student progress through both formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to support students in their academic development.
- Foster critical thinking and analytical skills by integrating case studies, sociological theories, and current social issues into lessons.
- Encourage independent research and learning through project work, field trips, and the use of sociological tools and technologies.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share resources, improve teaching methods, and contribute to the success of the Humanities department.
- Contribute to the school’s co-curricular activities, such as organizing sociology clubs, field trips, or guest speaker events that extend learning beyond the classroom.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and behavior, in line with school policies.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and personal growth among students.
- Stay up-to-date with developments in sociology education, integrating new teaching strategies, resources, and technologies into your practice.
What We’re Looking For:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience teaching Sociology at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
- Strong understanding of the Sociology curriculum, including assessment practices and best pedagogical approaches.
- A degree in Sociology or a related subject (desirable).
- A genuine passion for teaching Sociology and inspiring students to engage with social issues and critical thinking.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to motivate and engage students of all abilities.
