Dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary School in Hackney

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Hackney, East London
Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Our secondary school in Hackney is looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to provide support for students with a range of special educational needs, including learning disabilities, speech and language challenges, and emotional difficulties. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting students to achieve their best in a supportive school environment.

Role Overview:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to deliver tailored support for students with additional learning needs. Your role will include providing one-to-one and small group interventions, supporting students with their academic and social development, and helping to create a positive, inclusive classroom environment. You will also work with the SENCo to monitor student progress and ensure that students are receiving the necessary interventions and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with a variety of SEN, including learning difficulties and emotional challenges.
  • Assist with the implementation of learning interventions and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Work closely with the class teacher to adapt lessons and activities to ensure they are accessible for all students.
  • Monitor student progress, recording data and providing feedback to teachers and the SENCo.
  • Support students with their personal care and social development.
  • Promote positive behavior in the classroom and assist with classroom management.

  • Experience working with students with SEN in a secondary school or educational setting.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students.
  • A strong understanding of the needs of students with a range of special educational needs.
