Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Lewisham, South East London
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Our vibrant primary school in Lewisham is seeking a caring and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team. You will work with students with a variety of special educational needs, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). This role offers the chance to provide personalized support, helping students engage with the curriculum and thrive in a nurturing, inclusive environment.
Role Overview:
In this role, you will work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to deliver individual and group interventions to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development. You will assist students in overcoming barriers to learning, including behavioral challenges, by providing consistent support in the classroom and outside of lessons.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students with a range of SEN in the classroom, ensuring they can access lessons and activities.
- Assist with the delivery of interventions for students with additional learning needs, including reading, writing, and social skills programs.
- Encourage positive behavior, promoting self-confidence and independence in students.
- Support students with their emotional and social development, helping them build positive relationships with peers and staff.
- Monitor students’ progress, provide feedback to teachers, and contribute to reviews of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Assist with personal care and ensure students’ physical and emotional wellbeing.

- Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly ASD, ADHD, or SEMH.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- A patient, empathetic approach to supporting children who need additional support.

- Ability to work flexibly, supporting students both in and outside of lessons as needed.
