Are you a dedicated and experienced educator with a passion for supporting students with special educational needs (SEN)? Our vibrant primary school in Southwark is seeking a Deputy SENCO to join our team and help shape the future of our SEND provision. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting students with diverse needs and ensuring they receive the best possible education.
About the Role
As Deputy SENCO, you will work closely with the SENCO and teaching staff to support and enhance the school’s approach to SEND. You will help develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs), track student progress, and ensure that inclusive practices are embedded throughout the school. This role offers excellent opportunities for professional development within a supportive and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the SENCO in managing the school’s SEND provision, ensuring all students with additional needs receive the support they need.
- Help create, implement, and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with SEND.
- Monitor and track the progress of students with SEND, ensuring that appropriate interventions are provided.
- Collaborate with class teachers to implement inclusive teaching strategies and ensure students’ needs are met.
- Offer guidance and training to staff on best practices for supporting students with SEND.
- Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure a holistic and comprehensive approach to student support.
- Provide leadership and guidance to teaching assistants and other support staff in their roles.
What We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Are a qualified teacher with experience in Special Educational Needs, and ideally hold or are working towards the National Award for SEN Coordination.
- Are passionate about inclusive education and committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and can work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals.
- Are organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a busy school environment.
- Have experience working with primary-aged children and are familiar with the challenges they face.
